Intern Introduction: Maddie McCoy

Hi there, my name is Maddie McCoy and I'm delighted to join the Circles team as their Summer 2025 intern. I just graduated with a degree in English from Western Carolina University, so I'm looking forward to gaining experience in writing for a nonprofit. In my down time, I enjoy hiking, cross stitching, and watching cheesy action movies. I'm originally from Irmo, SC, but I'm hoping to stay in the western NC area after this summer. 

I got involved with Circles thanks to a friend who volunteers here regularly. When I mentioned I was looking for internship opportunities, he recommended that I look through the Circles website. Through this internship, I hope to connect more with the community before I leave Cullowhee. I enjoy using my writing abilities to advocate for others, which is one reason why I applied to be an intern at Circles. 

I'm hoping to further develop my writing skills related to nonprofit work. I want to learn more about what goes into nonprofit grant writing and marketing materials. I've written things like blog posts and newsletters before, but never for an established organization. I'm very excited to get started!
