Healthy Minds, Healthy Lives.

It is important to incorporate activities that help you stay mentally healthy. Being mentally healthy is as important as staying physically healthy. Although these elements are important, mental health is not always talk therapy and medications. All aspects of life contribute to mental health.

Things like goal setting, being out in nature, connecting with others, and engaging in hobbies are great ways to start contributing to your mental health. In Circles of Jackson County, we support our leaders with some of these contributing aspects of mental health. Circles gives attention to financial health with goal setting and social capital. Our leaders work on SMART Goals with their finances so that they can achieve financial success. We work on social connection as we have our weekly meetings, we incorporate community connections in these meetings, and Circle leaders join forces with an ally to have additional support. Every fifth Tuesday, we have a craft night that adds to the activities that can give you joy.

In addition to our Circles program, we are located in Jackson County. The Main Street Sylva Association has community activities that can enrich your connections to the community of Jackson County. There are places to connect with nature like the Pinnacle Park, the Greenway on the Tuckaseegee, and the Wesner Bald overlook (milepost 448 on the Blueridge Parkway). Jackson County has free cooking classes with Uncomplicated Kitchen so that you can become involved in practical hobbies. There are also various events that are operating out of our Jackson County Public Library that can enrich one’s well-being.

With all that Jackson County and Circles of Jackson County have to offer, there is space for balance. There is space to participate in the community as well as to experience the wonderful resources natural and curated for our residents in mind. Take some time out for yourself and do the things that give you and your loved ones joy. If you are struggling, reach out. If there is a mental health emergency, the numbers attached can 988 or the mobile crisis number can help. Know that Circles of Jackson County can be your support. Your mental health and wellness matters.
