How to Get Organized

How can you get organized? It can be really hard to make time to get organized, especially when it seems like there is always something more important to do. When tasks and mess pile up, it is even harder to find the motivation to get organized. In that moment, stay calm and be gentle with yourself. Next time you need to get organized, you can try these things.  

  • Make a list of things you need to do, then choose to do one thing each day.  

  • Set a timer and do a task for that amount of time. If you feel like continuing after the timer, that’s great, if not, that is great too! 

  • Designate one day of the week or even afternoon to just organize.  

  • When organizing, play some of your favorite music to lighten the mood and make it feel less like a chore.  

  • Stay focused and do not multitask, if you are thinking about too many thing it can cause you to get sidetracked or spiral. Just go one by one when it comes to tasks.  

  • Next, try to make sure you clean or organize one thing every day. It can be as small as washing one dish or making your bed.  

  • Sometimes in order to get organized, you may need to get rid of some things. Consider some of the things you own and whether or not you really need them.  

  • Do not rush yourself. The goal of organization is to live a cleaner, less hectic life. It is only important that you make progress.  

Organization can take time and it is almost never easy, but it is worth it. If you want a cleaner, more organized life, I encourage you to try some of the tips listed above. Lastly, if it truly is overwhelming, ask for help. Sometimes, it is so much easier when you have someone supporting you in a task. Here’s to getting organized!
