A Visit from the Library
Last Tuesday, we were visited by Tracy, a librarian from Jackson County Public Library, who spoke to us about the library’s vast resources for patrons. Those resources are available to anyone who has a library card with the Fontana Regional Library system, which has locations in Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties. Here are some library resources and services Tracy brought to our attention:
Free library cards
Free notary
Free WiFi
Computers
Desktop and laptop
Computer lab offers Microsoft Office applications and printing and scanning abilities
Technology support for devices like laptops and phones
Tech Tuesdays is from 10am-7pm and offers walk-in support for anyone with a device issue
If you want a more in depth session about your device, you can make an appointment to work with a technology mentor
eLibrary
Online materials like eBooks and movies
eGovernment provides information on federal, state, and local resources, as well as tax and social security information
NC Live, North Carolina’s statewide library cooperative
Provides access to articles, eBooks, and video services, and resources including online courses, test prep, language learning, and career development
Overall, the library has so many free resources that benefit our community, so there would be a considerable shift if those resources went away. Make sure to show support for the library by getting a library card, using their resources, and attending their various events!
If you’re interested in vocally showing support of the Jackson County Public Library, consider attending today’s Jackson County Board of Commissioners meeting at 6pm in Southwestern Community College’s Myers Auditorium. For those unable to attend the meeting, you can call the board’s clerk at (828)631-2213.
